The shadows she saw on the lawn prompted her to spend months developing an approach that does not, however, paint the object she chose onto canvas. It is more like the image has been transformed to the artist's own image with the canvas taking an interpretation by the artist. This is especially effective for objects that are living as well as items that have a shelf life such as fruits or people. Alexa's style of painting is ephemeral and only the images of her work are preserved. Techniques of photography and painting are closely coordinated and result in a flat two-dimensional space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Certain parts of the image like hair and eyes, display the 3D dimension. Meade will sometimes integrate her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows them to interact within their own world. It eliminates any distinction between photography, painting, and installation.
